Cannes Film Festival
Cannes Film Festival
The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival was held from May 8th - 19th, 2018. Cannes is considered the most prestigious film festival in the world, due in part to its history of premiering some of the greatest movies of all time. This year’s standouts included Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, Ciro Guerra and Cristina Gallego’s Birds of Passion, Gaspar Noé’s Climax, Lee Chang-dong’s Burning, Kevin McDonald’s Whitney, and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Shoplifters, which took home the coveted, Palme d’Or Award.
The festival took place for the first time since sexual harassment allegations shocked the industry, leading to the creation of the “Me Too” movement. This year, 82 women marched in a silent protest to denounce gender inequality.
