2022 Oscars

This year’s Oscar’s marked the first time a streaming movie won best picture, with Apple’s CODA taking home the top prize. The film employed a mostly deaf cast and also earned Troy Kotsur the award for best supporting actor, marking an important progression for inclusion in entertainment. Kotsur is the second deaf performer ever to win the award, 35 years after his CODA co-star Marlee Marlin was the first. In another historic moment, Jane Campion became the third woman awarded best director for Power of the Dog. Will Smith won best actor for his role in King Richard, while Jessica Chastain was awarded best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. For her role in West Side Story, Ariana DeBose won best supporting actress.
